www.vwaction.co.ukVW Action has for 34 years been the favourite VW show of many enthusiasts. It is by far the longest running family oriented VW Festival in the UK.
If you are happy to spend your two-and-a-half days at the show 'being entertained', the event has plenty to offer, but if you would like to take part in any of the many participative elements, here's how:
For children, the show has a free dedicated area 'Children's VWorld', which features a beach sand play area, free facepainter, free games and videos, colouring competition, and special circus skills training sessions, where children can learn skills to take part in the 'Poi Circus' shows themselves during the weekend.
On Sunday, there is a free Kids' Show & Shine, where they can display their bicycles, radio flyers, pedal cars etc. This is held right in the middle of the 'grown ups' Show & Shine, and is open to literally anything 'on wheels' the kids might want to enter.
The funfair is not free but features rides for kids of all ages.
Other free participative elements for adults, include the Off-Road course, where you can drive your (suitable) vehicle around the course under the watchful eye of the Bajaclub.uk marshalls. The Bajaclub boys and girls will also be organising 'passenger rides' in their vehicles for a small donation to Brad's Cancer Foundation.
The Show & Shine, which runs in different forms on both Saturday and Sunday is free entry and everyone with suitable/interesting vehicles is encouraged to take part. It is literally no more difficult that arriving at the display area at the right time. Marshalls will guide you through the registration process there and then.
The VW Action Olympics is not restricted to clubs, although many enter teams. You simply need five willing participants, and a team name. Registration is a simple and free process, at the Information Centre, anytime before the event takes place.
On the Saturday, it is possible for a 'signing on' fee, to run your own car on the Dragstrip, during the day long 'Run What You Brung'. For this you need to register at the signing on office, (trackside, near startline) during Saturday, from 8.30am.
The 'Give It A Whack For Brads' is a very unique opportunity to take some 'energy' out on the horrendous CHOP SHOP GANGSTER CAR, before it becomes the latest victim of the PODZILLA monster truck. Just make a donation to the charity in exchange for one minute's hire of a baseball bat. Alternatively for a small donation you could 'tag' a felt pen message on the bodywork.
The Autojumble has free plots for all bona fide private sellers, of all things VW. This is simply a matter of turning up and taking the next available plot. Just don't leave your vehicle in the way, or anywhere it might obscure other sellers' wares.
Pinstriping seminars are an opportunity to get a professional custom pinstriping job on your glovebox, travel cup, toolbox, or even directly onto your car. Speak with Simon Pollock at the 'Pinstriping Display' marquee.
If you are really quick off the mark, you might just still manage to enter the 'Campervan Cookoff'. There is no charge to take part, but you do of course need a suitably equipped VW campervan.
We are still also hoping that more of you will pledge to customise a toolbox, and donate it as one of this year's feature items in the charity auction.
Or - also in respect of the auction, if you have anything at all you would like to donate to our very worthwhile cause, Brad's Cancer Foundation, please bring it with you, and deliver it to the Auction Marquee before 1pm on Sunday.
All in all, Action is a full weekend for the most discerning VW enthusiast, and the many other elements of the show can be found online at
